Forum Features

There are a lot of forum systems out there, but this one is home grown. Let me know what forums you like on other sites, and what features you would like to see here, and I'll start prioritizing.

...I'd like to see how many messages are associated with each subject. You have that information when you actually open a subject so it shouldn't be to hard to do.

Thanks for listening.

I'm a big fan of the Discus forums that Analog, Asimov's, TTA, and Night Shade use. In particular, though, I like being able to view messages posted within the last day/week/month, etc. That way, I don't have to go sifting through all the topics to find new messages.

Like Tony said, thanks for listening.

I like the look of this forum very much, but I also think
that it will get more complex to work with when there are more entries.
So I second the suggestions of Tony and Chris.

It would become really easy to use, if in addition it would keep track for each registered user about read/unread entries. So I think this would become very expensive in space and performance requirements.
But then, you asked.

Keep up the good work

Bluejack--

Is there some way you could set up a username/real name toggle in the My Account screen, so I can make my real name appear as an author of forum posts instead of my username?

I'd be interested in seeing a better way to quote: in vBulletin and phpBB, you have the option of replying to the entire thread or an individual post, which would include the original in special tags. (We seem to have them, but not included by default.) The formatting of the quoting is difficult to pick out compared to the original, and should stand out immediately. Indenting the first line and quote marks don't cut it; the two ideas easily smear together. Font-size, color, background, or a border (such as a colored left-border that's become standard in email agents) are needed.

Beats italics any day.

You're right, foxy. It doesn't cut it. Fortunately, it should be a pretty easy thing to fix. I hope to have a new rev of the forums in about a week with a few other nice features as well. I'll slip this in.

Quoting should be better now. Other things coming soon.
